Every cost range on this site is sourced (see the named source on each state page). Sources are tier-1 marketplaces and attorney surveys — but they're still estimates. Actual quotes from a specific attorney for your specific situation can fall outside any of our ranges. Get written quotes from at least two attorneys before retaining one.

How affiliates affect our editorial work — and how they don't

They don't affect what we cover. We cover every state equally regardless of how much we earn from referrals in that state. We cover the cases where online services are appropriate and the cases where they're inadequate (see our online prenup analysis) — even though the latter recommends against a path that pays us.

They do affect site economics. Affiliate commissions are how we fund the legal research and editorial work that makes the site useful. If you find the site helpful and you're going to use one of our partners anyway, clicking through from here is a way to support the site at no cost to you. If you'd rather go directly to the partner, that's fine too.

How affiliate links are marked

Every monetized outbound link on this site uses rel="sponsored" per Google's link-attribute guidance. Every affiliate CTA is accompanied by an inline disclosure: "We may earn a commission when you click these links. This costs you nothing and does not influence our state-by-state coverage."

Not a lawyer referral service

PrenupByState is not a lawyer referral service. We are an editorial and research site. We do not recommend, evaluate, vet, or rank specific attorneys, and we are not registered as a lawyer referral service in any jurisdiction.

When a reader clicks an "Find an attorney" button on this site, they leave PrenupByState and are taken to LegalMatch, an independent attorney-matching service that is registered as a lawyer referral service where applicable state regulations require it. LegalMatch — not PrenupByState — performs the matching, vetting, and any attorney recommendations.
